So...I thought I would tell you a little about my fun weekend with my friend, Kim. It was brief but so much fun even when we weren't doing much but hanging out together - that was actually the best of times. Kim has had a rough year. She lost her husband several months ago, she is in real estate and that hasn't been doing too hot until recently and now she is crazy busy and had 4 escrows closing and she is also going to medical transcription school to have something else to fall back on and has 3 kids and a grandchild living with her. So this trip was much needed for her (and selfishly for me, as I miss
her terribly.) She flew down to my place the night before we left for Vegas and of course being the early bird I am (Kim not so much), I booked us on and 8:00 am flight to Vegas (which is only a 45 minute flight) Much to my surprise I learned something about Kim that I never knew in the
almost 41 years (yes that is correct - friends since we were 12) of our friendship. She hates to fly - even short trips. Oops! Next time we'll drive....:) We had a blast in Vegas - shopping at the fab mall right across the street from our hotel, hanging out with one of her sons who recently moved there,
doing a bit of gambling (we didn't leave millionaires, but didn't do too bad), had a few nice meals together and saw one FABULOUS show. The Cirque De Soleil Beatles Love Show - I highly recommend it! (I am going with my friend Sally and our daughters on a girl road trip in a few weeks to go see it again, it was that good!) The music was wonderful and the acrobatics were stunning...we had front row seats, so we definitely felt a part of the show. At the end of the show Sgt. Pepper leaned down and gave Kim and I each a rose - which made us squeal with delight! haha.....:) As we rolled into our beds around 4 am and had a 2:00 pm flight - we made the decision to not go to Catalina - as that would have been another 5:30 am morning (and like I said one of us is not an early morning person....) Good thing, as the next morning I woke up with a very disturbed tummy (and 5 days later it's still with me, but getting better.) a boat ride would not have been fun in that condition. Instead we went to the Farmers Market in LA and to a BBQ at her mother in laws house in Manhattan Beach. I felt really bad, as I didn't want to ruin Kim's weekend, so I was trying my best to be a trooper. On Monday morning, she decided that she was done with flying this weekend and opted to take the train home. So before the train ride home, we stopped in at my friend Sally's for coffee. Sally lost her husband 4 years ago, and I just knew she'd be a good person for Kim to meet as they
are in similar situations in their lives - and they hit it off big time...yeah!!! So much so that by the time we took Kim to the train station - it literally was starting to roll away and she had to jump on the train with a quick hug and kiss goodbye. Catalina will be another adventure, we decided. More to look forward to.
