things I'm afraid to tell you....

I was reading one of my fave blogs Little Brown Pen and was
inspired by her post today (which is below):

"Last week, my friend Ez of Creature Comforts shared a link to a post by Jess Constable of Makeunder My Life. It sparked a twitter conversation about how over styled and/or perfect our lives can appear on blogs. Most of us share pretty things, ideas that inspire us, edited photos, gorgeous products or homes we covet. From the outside looking in, lives can appear rosier than they are.
A few of us decided to pick a day and share things we wouldn’t typically talk about on our blogs – imperfections, insecurities, quirks, etc. Today is the day and Ez has the “Things I’m Afraid To Tell You” participant list over at Creature Comforts. Perhaps you’ll be inspired to share some of your own!"

After reading Nicholes, I decided to give it a try, here is my contribution.  I'm not really afraid to tell you, just don't talk about many of these things:

I'M VERY SHY - but if you met me you would never
believe it.  I guess it's a remnant from my childhood.
I moved 4,000 miles away from home when I was 20 to
put myself in a position where I would have to talk
to people as I hated being shy.  Well it worked, but
sometimes I still have that shy girl in me.

MY DAD - I was very upset with my dad and wouldn't return
his phone calls begging me to call him back a few months
before my sons wedding.  He had told me he wasn't coming,
and I was really upset as this was his first grandchild to be
getting married.  He ended up coming and we all had a great time.
That was the last time our family saw my dad.  He was killed 6 months later.  After he died, his girlfriend had told us he was
not feeling well at all which was why he wasn't going to come, but he always shielded us from any health issues, so I had no idea. I felt some guilt after I heard that, but glad I persisted
and got him to come, as that was a special day for us all.

I'M HAPPILY UNMARRIED - Alex and I live together with my daughter and have for almost 10 years.  Neither of us feel the need to be married despite everyone we know always asking us when we are getting married. (which gets a bit tiresome after awhile.) I just tell them to throw us a party if they need a celebration...haha..I also don't talk alot about Alex on here, as he is a very private person - social media wise.  If you met him in person you would never guess that as he is the most outgoing, crazy, fun person who has no filter when it comes to saying what is on his mind.(which has led to some very cringe worthy moments for me..haha..)You gotta love an honest person though.  He is just very old fashioned in that he believes in talking to people in person or on the phone and not through social media outlets.

MY ELDERLY FRIENDS - Although I love spending time with them, and I feel they add so much to my life - there are times when I feel so utterly distraught after listening to things they have to go thru on a daily basis and how they are treated by their family and people who are at the assisted living home.

MY TEMPER - I am one of the most easy going people you will ever meet, just don't piss me off...haha..One of the recipients of my temper is our home, as that is when I do my best cleaning.  So when things get a bit messy at home or the office, I am secretly hoping that someone will make me mad.

OUR HOME - We don't live in a huge house, but a small very nice, cute home with a good size backyard that I love to spend alot of time in when the weather is nice!  I have moved so many times over the years, that my load is quite light as of now and that is just how I like it.  However, I live with a packrat, so it takes alot of creativity to keep it hidden away..

MY ADDICTION - Black Licorice - I can only buy one small stick at a time, if I buy a box it will be gone that very day. I have no stop button when it comes to black licorice. :)

I came to this blogworld to forget about the stresses in my life and I think at times, while we are reading other people's blogs that we forget they came here too for that reason.  That is why you see alot of pretty going on.  Life isn't perfect, it's pretty darn messy at times, to be honest.  But thru these blogs I have been inspired by so many woman and happy for all of their successes found thru blogging.  Isn't that what life is all about - supporting each other and most importantly being kind - to everyone and that definitely includes ourselves!

Have a beautiful day!

  1. Oh Cathi,
What a wonderful post. You are so right about everything being pretty and perfect in Blogland. I am probably guilty of it but only because I get so much inspiration from beautiful interiors, fashion etc.
I feel that I have a lovely life but, it isn't glitzy or showbizzy. It is quite ordinary, probably like most bloggers. I must think about doing a post like this.
I so enjoyed reading this post.

  2. Cathi.....this was wonderful,

    All I can add is that I have always known we could be friends....you're fun, have a great sense of humour, there's you, me & George and we have our love of travel, amongst other things. There's a problem with that black licorice but I could probably overlook that LOL ;

Thank you for sharing....well done XX

  3. I really enjoyed this, cathi, and I think your imperfections are just as beautiful as your perfections - even that guy you hang around with. Haha. I feel very lucky to have gotten to meet you both. xxoo

  4. I'm so happy for you that your father was able to make it to your son's wedding. That must have meant the world to all of you and the memories of that day are priceless I'm sure :)

  7. What a wonderful post Cathi ~ I love it and you know I adore you and I know now not to piss you off!! I too am pretty laid back but can simmer to a boil if the moment is right. I agree with you about all the pretty in blog land ~ I choose to be up (most of the time). I used to read a blog that was like a big downer every time I visited ~ took that one off my reading list but if that's what people need to do to get thru things then great ~ I like visiting real people ~ like you. happy week-end sweet friend. xo

  8. Such a great post Cathi. My favourite blogs tend to be those which are not overly stylised and therefore make me feel inadequate! I'm afraid to say, that some of the popular blogs make me feel quite diminished or I wonder how on earth they aren't collapsing with exhaustion. I've really enjoyed learning more about you and I'll remember not to get your riled up:) Meredy xo
