nesting....

It's been a busy few weeks around here work-wise, but
personally it's been very interesting as I experience the
beginning stages of empty nesting.  I have been a mother
for nearly 32 years and as this is the first time that I have
not had children in my home, it's been a sort of grieving
process, yet exhilarating for many reasons - excitement
for Steff as she moves out on her own and all the rich
learning experiences that will provide her, rediscovering
myself as an individual again, now that the day to day
parent duties are no longer needed, and getting to know
my children as the fabulous adults they have turned
into - that is truthfully the most exciting part for me!

How timely that autumn is just around the corner, as that
to me always feels like a new beginning.  These first few
weeks, I have found that nesting at home is what has
made me the happiest - going thru and decluttering,
cleaning out cupboards and going thru old cards, letters,
photos - putting lots of smiles on my face remembering.

I'm also interested to see where this next chapter of my life
will take me - I can tell you one thing, you won't find me bungee
jumping or skydiving (other than those things, I am pretty open
to new life experiences...haha...)

I thought I'd check in and say hello - I have been in a quiet mood
lately, enjoying a few books that a sweet friend sent me, reading
some inspiring blogs, going on some pretty fun bike rides, meeting
up with my girlfriends and also enjoying a bit more time with my guy!

Have a fabulous day!
xxoo

Good for you! I think you have a really healthy attitude about it. I am 30 and my parents are just starting to go through this themselves, as my younger brother is about to finish college and move on to bigger and better things. I know that it's been hard for my Dad because he just gets really grouchy sometimes for no reason. While I don't think that is the right way to deal with it, I understand what is going on. However, your approach seems really healthy, thoughtful and honest. Enjoy some of your new-found freedom!

"Skydiving" leapt out of your post at me Cathi, so glad that you are NOT thinking of doing that ;)

I loved reading this post....such a mixture of emotions, so beautifully described. Exciting times and lots of changes....motherhood is a rollercaster of that isn't it!!?

I hope that you and Alex are both well, I've been thinking of you XX

I understand this oh so well Cathi. Interesting that you are talking about this today -- I talked about it today on my blog -- and I also likened it to mourning/grieving. Now, my 2 will be back and forth from school for a while yet, but if all works as they want it to they will be finding their own places as soon as possible when schooling is finished.

Wishing Steff all the best in her new home and wishing you all the best as you move into your next chapter. I think you and I will be experiencing that joy together! xo

This is the perfect time of year to nest ~ I think so anyway. Glad that Steff is settling in and that you are adjusting to your empty nest ~ more time with Alex is always a good thing. Sending hugs and love to you sweet friend. xo

I am in nesting mode right now, too, Cathi, and I so agree with you about fall. It's a wonderful time for new beginnings. I also love what you said about your kids becoming adults. I always get the sense when you talk about your kids that you are just a wonderful mum!!!

Happy weekend, my friend. Sorry I've been away so much. I took a break from blogging for most of the summer, which was great, but it's lovely to be back. xo Gigi
