star light, star bright...

"Star light, star bright,
The first star I see tonight;
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight"
As we are almost a week before Christmas,
this suddenly has turned into a very bittersweet
holiday for Alex and myself.
Cancer - I truly hate this word,
this disease, has reared it's ugly
head yet again for one of our
friends - a 51 yr.old man, who
has a wife and two teenage kids.
His wife is at a loss, she said to a friend -
"how do you tell the love of your life, he
doesn't have much longer to live?"
When she asked the doctors what she
should do, they told her to get his affairs
in order and enjoy some family time,
it won't be a long time, maybe not
even a week.
This cancer has been relentless the past few years,
not only in my world, but alot of yours too.
I am getting tired of that word.
I have lost too many friends to that word.
So if I can have one wish on those gorgeous
stars, it would be to wipe this horrible
disease off the planet for good.
"Star light, star bright
the first star I see tonight
I wish I may, I wish I might
Have this wish I wish tonight."

  1. Oh Cathi, I am sorry for such terrible news for you and your friends.

I do know just what you mean....this year we as a family have lost more friends and family than ever before, it has been extraordinary and quite overwhelming....just this morning my husband called me and said that his childhood best friend's father had died unexpectedly last night....by coincidence he was born on the same day as my father in law who died in March this year.

Sometimes it is almost too much to take in isn't it.....

Love to you my friend xo

  2. You are right, it is touching its ugliness in every corner of this world. My dad lost one of his closest friends last month to this disease. We know so many people who have had/lost/endured cancer.

I will wish on this wish with you...

  3. Oh Cathi ~ this just sucks. I know that is not a great word to describe something, but in this case it is fitting. We all have been touched in some way by the dreaded "c word" and it scares the hell out of me. I hope that they can make the best of the time they have left and I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. xo

  4. I couldn't agree more -- cancer needs to be eradicated. My heart goes out to you, to your friends who are facing this sad, heart breaking news.

  5. Cathi, my friend, I am thinking of you tonight, and of your friend and his family. I share your wish, too. My father died of cancer a week after Christmas when he was 54. I was sixteen at the time, so when I read that your friend has children, my heart went out to those kids. They will need much love and support. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

    Sending you love--
    Gigi
